CyberGhost vs PureVPN

Both of these are bought on the two-year price and both are aimed at somebody who wants streaming to work without much thought. They fail in different places, and neither failure is visible at the checkout.

Two long prepayments and two renewal shapes

CyberGhost bills one charge covering twenty-six months and then a second covering twelve. PureVPN's lowest rate covers twenty-seven months, and it sells port forwarding and a dedicated address on top of the subscription rather than including them. Both are cheap going in and neither price is the price you keep paying.

CyberGhost allows fewer simultaneous devices than most; PureVPN allows ten. Both ship apps down to televisions, both have ad blocking, streaming support and IPv6 protection, and neither offers multi-hop.

Filtered networks, and which one gets through

PureVPN has obfuscation. CyberGhost has none at all, so any network filtering VPN traffic — a school, an office, a hotel, a country doing it nationally — stops CyberGhost, and no setting changes that. If you might be on such a connection, this decides the comparison outright.

Against that, PureVPN carries the heavier history. In 2017 it supplied a customer's connection records to the FBI while advertising a no-logs policy, and its fourth assessment ran in February 2023 with the firm no longer named on its pages. CyberGhost's Deloitte report is limited assurance covering the servers on 31 October 2025 — one date rather than a period, which is narrow, but recent and attributed.

CyberGhost also runs its whole fleet from memory with nothing written to disk, where PureVPN does not. The undisclosed owner cuts the other way: Kape Technologies has owned CyberGhost since 2017 and the site does not mention it, while selling two other VPNs as separate brands. PureVPN is GZ Systems Limited of Tortola with the group run from Karachi, and says so.

Both sit outside the intelligence-sharing agreements, so jurisdiction separates nothing here.

Which should you choose?

Choose CyberGhost if your connection is never filtered and you want the more recent, attributed audit and a memory-only fleet. Choose PureVPN if you might need to get through a filter, or you want ten devices at the lowest prepaid rate, and the 2017 case does not stop you.

Both ask you to accept something significant. For streaming without that trade, it is worth reading further down this directory before committing to either.
