Mullvad vs PureVPN

Both of these have had their no-logs claim meet the real world. That is unusual, and it is the reason to put them side by side — the outcomes could hardly be further apart.

Nothing on file against a file that was handed over

In 2023 Swedish police searched Mullvad's servers under warrant and left with nothing, because there was nothing to take. Registration asks for no email address and sets no password, the account is a randomly generated number, and payment can be made in cash through the post or in Monero.

In 2017 PureVPN supplied a customer's connection records to the FBI while advertising a no-logs policy. Its fourth assessment ran in February 2023 and the pages describing it no longer name the firm that carried it out. The current policy names the specific record categories it says it does not keep, which is more precise than the industry norm, but precision in a policy is not the same as having nothing to produce.

Four external reviews of Mullvad were published between October 2025 and June 2026, covering the Android app, a WireGuard implementation and the payment and account backend. On jurisdiction PureVPN is better placed — the British Virgin Islands is outside every intelligence-sharing agreement, where Sweden is inside the fourteen-country one — which is exactly the case for not treating jurisdiction as the answer.

Paying once a month against prepaying two years

Mullvad charges five euros a month at one month and at ten years, with no auto-renewal: the balance runs down and you top it up. PureVPN's lowest rate requires a twenty-seven-month prepayment, and port forwarding and a dedicated address are sold on top of it.

PureVPN allows ten simultaneous devices against Mullvad's five, and ships apps down to Apple TV and Fire TV where Mullvad has nothing for a television. It also has streaming support and IPv6 protection, neither of which Mullvad claims.

Mullvad answers with open-source clients, servers running from memory, multi-hop, ad blocking and a SOCKS5 proxy. Its speed measures well on the bench the other entries use; PureVPN has not been measured on it.

Which should you choose?

Choose Mullvad if the no-logs claim is what you are actually buying, and five devices is enough. It is the strongest evidence in this directory and PureVPN's is the weakest.

Choose PureVPN if you need television apps or ten devices at the lowest possible prepaid rate, and the 2017 case does not change your mind.
