NordVPN vs ExpressVPN

These are the two most heavily advertised VPNs you can buy, and the honest starting point is that they are more alike than either would like you to think. Both connect quickly, both stay out of your way, both charge around fifteen dollars a month if you refuse to commit, and both renew at roughly three times the rate that got you in. If you are hoping for a large difference in what the software does day to day, there is not one.

How much of the no-logs claim has been checked

Here they separate. NordVPN has been through six outside reviews of its no-logging claim, the most recent by Deloitte in December 2025. ExpressVPN's latest review, by KPMG in February 2025, covered the controls as they stood on a single day rather than over a period. That is a weaker thing to have been told: a policy can hold on the day an auditor visits and not otherwise. ExpressVPN's apps have not been examined since 2024.

Neither company makes this easy on you. NordVPN's report is readable only from inside a paid account, so you have to buy the product before you can read the reason for buying it.

What the quicker connection costs you elsewhere

ExpressVPN starts loading pages sooner, and on a machine you use all day that is a difference you feel rather than one you have to measure. It also gets through networks that interfere with VPN traffic without you configuring anything.

The trade is that ExpressVPN does less. There is no multi-hop, no route into Tor and no SOCKS5 proxy; NordVPN has all three. Neither offers port forwarding. ExpressVPN has also discontinued its router firmware, so if the plan was to cover a whole house from one box, that plan needs revisiting.

Which should you choose?

Choose NordVPN if the no-logs claim is the thing you are actually buying, and you would rather have the version of it that has been examined six times than the version examined once. Choose ExpressVPN if you want the connection to feel like it is not there, and you will not miss multi-hop or Tor.

If neither argument moves you, notice what they have in common: both are priced to catch you at renewal. Mullvad charges five euros a month at every term, with no introductory rate to expire, and that is the better answer for anyone whose real objection here is the money.
