Windscribe vs hide.me

These are the two services this directory scores highest for ease, and they get there the same way: by not requiring you to become a customer before you are protected. The differences are in what happens after that.

Getting started without an account

hide.me's free plan takes no account, no email address and no card, and never runs out. Windscribe asks for no email address and no password either, and its free plan covers unlimited simultaneous devices — the same as the paid one — with a monthly data allowance instead.

So hide.me removes the signup entirely and meters you by plan; Windscribe removes the identity and meters you by data. If you want one machine protected with no registration at all, hide.me. If you want the whole house protected and can live inside an allowance, Windscribe.

What each includes once you pay

Windscribe includes port forwarding, multi-hop, ad blocking, obfuscation, streaming support and servers running from memory, and publishes open-source clients. It also lets you buy only the countries you use.

hide.me's ad blocker, proxy, streaming and port forwarding are all paid-tier only, and whether its servers run without disks cannot be established either way. Its clients are not open source. What it does offer is IPv6 carried inside the tunnel on every location, and a published guarantee that renewal matches the signup price and duration — Windscribe also renews at the rate it charged, so this is a tie rather than a win.

On evidence both are past their date. Windscribe's last outside server review was Packetlabs in June 2024; hide.me's was Securitum, dated 7 June 2024. Neither has a current examination, and Windscribe's open-source clients are the tiebreaker.

Jurisdiction goes the other way. hide.me is registered in Labuan, Malaysia, outside every intelligence-sharing agreement. Windscribe is in Ontario, inside the five-country one.

Which should you choose?

Choose Windscribe if you want unlimited devices, port forwarding included, or source anybody can read. Choose hide.me if you want protection with no account whatsoever, or if a Malaysian registration outside the intelligence agreements is worth more to you than the extra features.

Both are unusually easy to start with and neither will surprise you at renewal, which is a better position than most of this directory manages.
